Install a Sisal Rug
small text
large text

In this episode, our designers placed a new sisal rug into the homeowners' pre-existing carpet pattern. Here's how you can do it yourself:

1.  To begin, establish an area to insert the rug into the pre-existing carpet. Placing the new rug on the pre-existing carpet may help to identify the best area for the rug.

2.  After the best area has been identified, take measurements of the rug and the area in which the new rug is to be placed. (*Note: Be cautious when completing the next step because the installed carpet is already stretched from wall to wall, so when the carpet is cut it may contract up to 1/4 of an inch, which can cause the previous measurements to be off target. It is recommended that the first cut be in the middle of the carpet area that is to be removed. This allows for the carpet to pull and for an accurate measurement.)

3.  After the measurements have been completed, use a carpenter's knife to cut the area of the carpet to be removed. Now remove the carpet and prep to place the new rug. (Note: When cutting the pre-existing carpet, be sure to only cut the carpet and not the pad beneath. Removing the pad would allow the new rug to sit unevenly with the rest of the carpet.

4.  Finally, using indoor/outdoor fiberglass carpet tape, position the tape around the bottom border of the new rug. Then lay the rug in place of the removed carpet. The rug has been, laced and the project is finished. (Note: Allow the new rug to set for an hour before placing any substantial weight on it.)
